Time Permits!

Melbourne superb-group featuring members of The Shifters, Pop Singles, Dag & Chook Race, Permits started as a means to document abandoned songs, left over from each member’s various projects. The results so far have resonated a sound that is as sweet as it is cynical, with power-pop sheen, bright and playful guitar work, at times a wonky VU-bentism, and a rhythm section driving this rock n' roll train on and off the tracks again. Never ones to shy away from a subtle intricacy, the band forge beyond their clamorous live sound —softening and stretching the pallet with acoustic guitars, synthesizer, saxophone, and beatific backing vocals.

The bulk of the album was recorded in one afternoon in June 2018 with Jesse Williams (Girlatones/ Leah Senior) shortly after the band's inception. The group then spent the better half of 2020's Covid-19 lockdown finishing the album by recording overdubs in their various homes and mixing the album via email. As an album, Time Permits us, the listener, an opportunity to question the action of individuals and the authority they belong to.
